Unfortunately, Merlin is one of the students finally chose pro le Fay Morgana (Alice Krige) and betray his teacher. Merlin was killed but before our last breath, this witch had told the Balthazar. Someday Merlin’s descendants will appear that will be key to defeat Morgana.
When she was competing against Morgana, Balthazar managed to lock the two witches in a doll-shaped prison. Maxim also participate cooped up inside. Balthazar task now is to find descendants of Merlin, which will be against Morgana who have unimaginable power.
Year change but Balthazar is still waiting for Merlin’s heir to the clan was until one day he met a young man named Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel who apparently is the next generation of Merlin. Bringing the old themes in new technology, one of which is often done by filmmakers. The proof is, how many movies with almost the same theme and the proof is also a producer willing to finance the film. Philosopher’s Apprentice also offers the old themes are combined with modern, realistic visualization. Unfortunately, the effort was not balanced by other components which also became the backbone of a film.
Made based on a poem by Goethe, written in the year 1797, a duration of 110 minutes the movie script is done by many authors of the manuscript. There are at least seven names mentioned in the row could be a playwright and is also what makes this film so seemed to lose direction. This film story line is no longer follow the path described modification of Goethe’s story but in reality it did not make this movie so feel worthy to be remembered.
Another problem is not the emergence of the atmosphere ‘tense’ even told that the fate of the world and all its content will depend on the success of Balthazar and Dave duo. Dave played by Jay Baruchel seemed even more interested in Becky Barnes, played by Teresa Palmer to be honest even though there key to the success of this film.
In the tradition of Disney movies, magic has always been the core problem and there can be no teen age Dave was not interested in learning to do something magical as taught by Balthazar. Result, the chemistry between the characters played by Cage and Jay Baruchel Nicolas actually do not even formed. Even if there is an interesting fact is acting Alfred Molina who plays as Maxim Horvath. It seems, again, Cage stuck on the wrong role despite the fact that the ability of this actor is more than enough.
